Widely regarded as one of the most important works ever written in Spanish and undoubtedly ahead of its time, "The ingenious gentleman don Quixote of la Mancha" chronicles the adventures of Alonso Quijano who, obsessed with the then popular stories of knights errant, convinces himself that he can live up to said knights and ventures into 17th century Spain, looking for injustices to amend.
The novel is composed of two volumes. The first one contains don Quixote's first two escapes: an initial, short one, which serves as a prelude and the second, in which don Quixote travels in the company of his squire, Sancho Panza. The first volume is, mainly, a parody of the literature.
